Font smoothing on Edgy Eft | Oct 27th 2006

I made a small update to the ever-popular post on this blog: OS X like font rendering in Linux.  The guide now covers Edgy too. Turner’s patches for Edgy are now available through a private repository. You can download it from here:

By the way, here is how my Edgy desktop looks now:

The icon theme is the ultra cool Echo from upcoming Fedora core 7 artwork. You can grab it from here. The GTK theme is clearlooks and the window manager is vanilla compiz.

  1. Dear All,

I’ll be really thrille if some body can assist me with the below mentioned issue:
I’m using a Dell Optiplex GX620 with 1GB DDR2 RAM,160 GB HDD,P4(HT) 3.0 GHz processor, 128 MB ATI G card.HDD is divided into two partition one primary partition I have Windows XP -Professional and I used D drive for dumping my data(Of course for testing the waters of other OS ;) I recently ordered Kubuntu’s DVD and was trying to install the same but the installation failed at 60 %…and strangely enough when I remove the keyborad and mouse while installation in progress then it goes further and fails at 80 %.

  2. @Parry,
You are better off posting this question in Ubuntu forums. When the installation stops at 80% press Alt+F1. You will see some error messages. Post your question along with the error log in the Ubuntu forums. Definitely you will get some answers.

  3. How do you go about installing that icon set in ubuntu? Did you simply use the command at the top of the page you linked to?

    Thanks!
